Today marks the 154th birth anniversary of our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal.
These portraits were taken from the year 1890 until 1892 (upper left: Rizal in 1890; lower left: Rizal in 1892; center: portrait on paper money; upper right: Rizal in Luna's house; lower right: Rizal in 1891).
This photo is from the book “Lineage, Life and Labors of Jose Rizal, Philippine Patriot: A study of the growth of free ideas in the trans-pacific American territory” by Austin Craig, 1913. It is a biographical book about Rizal that discusses in depth the greatest influences from his family lineage and from outside forces including that of Philippine and world history. Included in this book are Rizal's own illustrations from his sketchbook and photographs of his sculptures and other famous works.
This book is available at the Ortigas Foundation Library, as well as other books and documents about Rizal.
